Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is an advanced massage technique that focusses on manipulating the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue, and realigning them.
Whilst deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques of a more classic relaxation massage that focusses on superficial body regions, the pressure applied during a deep tissue massage is more intense, the strokes slower and deeper, and the pressure is concentrated on areas of tension and pain, and so can result in some discomfort during the massage.
Rather than relaxation, a deep tissue massage focusses on treating muscle pain, breaking up scar tissue and adhesions that form following injury or trauma, improving stiffness and increasing range of motion, improving posture, decreasing pain, reducing inflammation and promoting faster healing. This is achieved by loosening muscle tissues and the lengthening of fascia, muscles and tendons resulting in the release of toxins from the muscles and an increase in blood flow and oxygen circulation.
Deep tissue massage is used to treat chronic areas of tension, strains and sports injuries, improve tight and contracted areas such as stiff necks, lower back tightness, and sore shoulders.
Denise is an advanced massage therapist offering clinical massage therapy sessions using deep tissue massage techniques, combined with other therapy techniques as necessary, to treat those suffering from pain and stiffness, those recovering from physical trauma, and those seeking massage therapy treatments to maintain optimal physical fitness. She offers both morning and evening appointments at her private clinic in Stanford in the Vale, between Wantage and Faringdon.
